I've always loved moving and staying active. Whether it was playing sports or just biking around town with friends, you could probably find me outside. I found it difficult to stick to one sport in high school because I wanted a taste of everything, but I
knew I had to stay active throughout my college years. During the summer before starting college, however, I got lazy and barely did anything physical besides an occasional bike ride or some recreational tennis. I also developed terrible eating habits, and while I didn't gain any serious weight (thanks overactive metabolism), my body composition changed significantly and I was slowly losing athleticism and motivation to exercise. I decided to take action and enrolled myself in a fitness class that semester. As the months rolled by I was growing tired of the monotonous routine and knew that I was on the road to burning out. I started doing workouts from a video program with my mom that used elements of CrossFit so I decided to investigate.
The rest is, as cliché as it may sound, history. I've been a "CrossFitter" for just over two years now and it has become a passion I never knew I had. CrossFit is not only the sport of fitness, it's a lifestyle that has positively impacted the lives of so many around the world. I became a coach to spread my love of health and fitness and to be there to celebrate each victory, no matter how small. The best part of CrossFit is that the learning process is never over, nothing is ever easy, and the community is full of amazing people.
Steven has been part of the fitness community for over 25 years. He started lifting weights and became interested in body building when he was 19 years old. He started personal training clients when he was 23 and continued to learn, grow and help people in health and wellness. He is a certified BioResonance Therapist, Lifestyle Educator through Metagenics. He has been personal training clients for more than 20 years. His CrossFit journey began 3 years ago and has never looked back. At 44 years young, he is in the best shape of his life and wants to continue to share this amazing experience with others. Now Coaching CrossFit, he feels he can have a bigger impact on many more lives than just one on one training. He and his wife Denise love the CrossFit Mahwah community and work tirelessly to keep improving themselves for that community.

I wasn't always into health, fitness and CrossFit, I wasn't always into sports as I had to be dragged into training sessions and forced to perform. I was severely overweight my whole life; I was a 10lb newborn, 60lb 1 year old, 180lb 9 years old 200+ preteen, 250+ teen and as an adult my heaviest was 320lbs. I had the worst nutrition and ate until I couldn't stand at times. One of my biggest turning points and the catalyst was after my daughter Siena was born. I remember trying to get off the couch with this little baby and I couldn't find the breath or strength to do it. I was 24 years old clear over 300 pounds and I couldn't get off the couch with my daughter!? I literally had to pass her off to my now wife Valerie stand up then take her back in my arms, I was breathing heavy and slightly sweating from simply standing up I decided things were going to change so I got serious about my health, I had a degree in communications with TV and radio broadcasting, but went back to school for massage therapy with my wife holding a doctorate in physical therapy; we thought it be fun to be able to work together.
While in school for MT I found some CrossFit footage on Youtube looking for exercise tips. This started a spark which became the fire that still burns in my heart now. I'm very passionate about health, fitness and the way CrossFit prescribes them both. I determined to get in shape and pursue CrossFit inside of a year I dropped 100 pounds and became motivated not only to improve myself but be a motivator of others to do the same. Now my passion for doing WOD's and workouts leads me to a passion for coaching and watching others improve whether it be with the olympic lifts, gymnastics, improving on a benchmark workout or even losing or gaining weight.

I’m a native of Stockholm, Sweden and started my athletic career as a swimmer. After leaving my swimming career behind and working as a nurse for several years, I started working in the fitness industry where I have enjoyed working for the past fourteen years. Received the CrossFit level 1 trainer certification back in 2013 and also have the CrossFit Gymnastics certification .In addition to CrossFit , I also hold certifications in Spinning and Les Mills BodyPump and am also a certified Personal Trainer.
Since moving from Sweden to the U.S. in 2007, I have been working in the fitness industry in South Carolina, North Carolina and for the past three years up in the New Jersey area.
I have been coaching CrossFit for four years and I also teach Spinning. In 2014, I started with obstacle racing and enjoy running Spartan races and also other obstacle races. I am an outdoor person and enjoy hiking and camping in the mountains. Have a passion for coaching CrossFit and gets a lot of energy helping others succeed. I am so happy and fortunate to have found CrossFit Mahwah. I really feel at home here!

I have been a CrossFit athlete for about 4 years. During this time I have come to truly respect and love the sport. Physical fitness has always been a passion of mine because I have strived to remain active and healthy. However, CrossFit has taken my passion to another level. Through CrossFit, I have learned the relevance and connectedness of mind, body, and spirit. All elements interplay with one another and are in need of each other in order for one to reach his/her full potential. My passion for the sport, love for working with people, and admiration for my own coaches, have all inspired me to become a coach. In 2014, I attained my CrossFit Level 1 Certication and have never looked back. CrossFit is a sport that you need to approach with a sense of humility. With the right mindset, the rewards of CrossFit are truly endless.
