What to Do When You Experience Pain During Exercise.
Let’s dig a little deeper. I’m not talking about the pain of the workout, lungs hurt, your body is struggling to move, etc….
I’m talking about the sharp pain you feel in your knee as you squat, the pinch you feel in your shoulder as you press something overhead, or that low back pain many experience when performing any number of movements.
The pain that says stop. But YOU keep going.
Pain is a signal🚦
Sometimes the signal is strong, sometimes it is light and faint. This signal is there for a purpose, so you STOP doing whatever it is you are doing before damage occurs. If we ignore that pain, it will keep getting stronger until something breaks.
Your ego is to blame here. “I don’t want to stop, I have to finish, I have to keep going, If I don’t’ finish im no good….”. WRONG Answer.
In an environment where you are paying to be supervised/coached, you must tell your coach or personal trainer what is happening, this is your responsibility. The professional you are working with will not always be able to see you wince or make the pain face.
When there is pain, and the coach is made aware, they can adjust the movement, or stop it completely. If you don’t do this, you get hurt or possibly worse injured.
You Don’t Know Best
The coach and the fitness professionals are your guide, your instructor, your mentor, they are the boss when you are in the class or one on one. Listen to them, follow their instruction and guidance. If you experience pain TELL THEM RIGHT AWAY.
