What Does It Mean to Be Fit?
Is it a number, a time on the clock you finished some “benchmark” workout, how fast you run, how much you can lift, or how high you can jump….? Maybe for some those numbers are important, but being fit means something different for each of us. It’s unique to you and me.
Being fit can mean being able to play with your kids and not get tired. It could be the ability to get up and down stairs without falling and hurting yourself. Maybe it’s to be better at a sport you play. Maybe it’s mental fitness, less stress and better ability to handle the stresses of life. Possibly just being able to walk without pain in your joints is fit for you.
Sometimes we forget why we started, we get hung up in comparing ourselves to others, what they can do and what I can’t do. Stay hungry for progress, but forget about what others are doing, it’s a distraction and a trap. You got started for you, keep it that way.
If you are struggling along the fitness journey, it’s ok, remember why you started, map your progress, pat yourself on the back for the bright spots. Focus on what’s been accomplished and keep moving forward.
